Baking Mat Sheet Holds High-Heat Service With Zero Oil Bleed
  • Product Details

A baking mat that smokes at 220 °C, or leaves a faint oil ring on pastry, is releasing something it should not. Xiangxi's thermoplastic silicone vulcanizate (TP-SiV) series — food-contact grade is specified for sustained oven contact, is loaded at the level matched to the sheet stiffness you want (see TDS), and gives release without a sprayed silicone coat that wears off in the dishwasher.

Why a Baking Mat Sheet smokes, curls or loses release

  • Thermal oxidation — Fat at 200–230 °C plus air oxidises the soft phase; the sheet yellows, then cracks along the fold lines where it was stored rolled.

  • Plasticiser volatility — Any volatile plasticiser leaves the sheet at oven temperature, condenses on the oven glass and taints the next bake.

  • Coating wear — A sprayed release coat is 5–20 µm thick; a domestic scouring pad removes it in weeks, and the mat starts gripping dough.

What a Baking Mat Sheet must survive, cycle by cycle

ParameterTarget for a domestic matWhy it matters
Continuous service220–230 °C, peaks to 250 °CAbove this the colour pack fails before the base compound does
Thickness0.4–0.8 mm, ±0.03 mmThin spots scorch and curl first
ShrinkageUnder 1.5% after 1 h at 200 °CDimensional change is what makes a mat rock on the tray
ReleaseNo added coatingInherent release removes a whole process step

Which TP-SiV grade for the baking mat

  • Food-contact grade with a heat-stable pigment system; the pigment, not the polymer, is usually the first thing to fail in an oven.

  • For a fibreglass-reinforced mat, confirm the impregnation bond — a soft compound wets glass poorly without the right carrier.

  • For a thicker trivet-style sheet, take the harder let-down so it does not slump on a hot tray.

  • Ask for the loss-on-heating and volatile data, which is what an oven actually measures.

Processing notes for Baking Mat Sheet

  • Calender or press at a thickness you can hold; a mat that varies by 0.1 mm burns in the thin band.

  • Post-anneal the sheet for dimensional stability before die-cutting, especially if the mat will be rolled for retail.

  • Emboss the logo at low pressure — deep embossing thins the sheet under the mark and that is where it splits.

  • Test release with a high-sugar dough as well as a lean one; sugar caramel binds to surfaces that pass the lean test.

Results to verify in your own lab

  • Heat ageing: 200 °C for 72 h, then elongation retention and colour shift (ΔE).

  • Volatiles: loss on heating at 200 °C; a mat that fogs the oven glass fails here.

  • Release force: peel of a baked sugar dough from a 100 mm strip, before and after 20 dishwasher cycles.

  • Curl: flatness on a tray after ten oven cycles from cold.

Frequently asked questions

What is the real maximum service temperature?

Sustained contact is different from a peak; state both in the pack claim and pick the pigment package to match the sustained figure.

Is a separate release coating still needed?

The grade releases inherently, so the sprayed coat and its solvent line can be dropped — which also removes the wear-out failure mode.

Can the mat be cut to size by the retailer?

Yes, die-cut or guillotine after annealing; cutting before annealing releases internal orientation and the mat grows on the shelf.

Does it pass food-contact migration tests?

The grade is formulated to the food-contact framework; confirm against the specific framework for the market you ship to, since limits differ.

Will it discolour with tomato or turmeric?

Fat-soluble pigments in food stain any light-coloured mat; the answer is a darker colourway or a specified cleaning routine, not a different polymer.
