LED Strip Soft Diffuser Sleeve Diffuses Light Without Yellowing
  • Product Details

An LED sleeve is an optical part, not just a cover: it sets the dot pattern, the light loss and how the fixture looks after two summers outdoors. Xiangxi's thermoplastic silicone vulcanizate (TP-SiV) series — general moulding grade holds transmission with diffuse scattering, resists UV yellowing at a loading matched to the wall and flexibility you need (see TDS), and stays supple on a flexible strip through repeated bending.

Why an LED Strip Soft Diffuser Sleeve yellows and spots

  • UV and heat yellowing — Blue-pumped white LEDs run hot at the die; UV plus 60–80 °C oxidises an unstabilised polymer and the light shifts warm and green.
  • Dot imaging — A sleeve too thin or too clear shows individual emitters; diffusion depends on wall thickness and on the scattering package, not on colour alone.
  • Bend and stress whitening — A sleeve pulled over a flexible strip under tension whitens at the bend, which reads as a cloudy patch in the run.

Which TP-SiV grade for the diffuser sleeve

  • General moulding grade for the sleeve body; choose the wall first, because wall thickness sets diffusion more than grade does.
  • For an outdoor fixture, request UV-stabilised pigment and the yellowing data at the drive current you use.
  • For a rigid linear fixture, a firmer let-down holds the profile; for a flexible strip, take the softer end.
  • Ask for transmission and haze at 2 mm — the number that matters is at your wall, not on a 1 mm plaque.

Processing notes for LED Strip Soft Diffuser Sleeve

  • Extrude with a polished die and minimal draw; draw-down orients the polymer and shows as a streak in the lit run.
  • Cool evenly and anneal if the sleeve will be coiled tight for shipping; a coiled sleeve takes a set that shows as waviness.
  • Keep the wall concentric; a thin band transmits the emitter directly and defeats the diffuser.
  • Test the finished fixture lit, at operating temperature, not the compound on a spectrophotometer alone.

Results to verify in your own lab

  • Yellowing: b* shift after 1,000 h at 60 °C and 85% RH, at your drive current.
  • Diffusion: luminance uniformity along the run, measured on the assembled fixture.
  • Transmission: total and diffuse transmission at your wall thickness.
  • Bend whitening: visual check at the minimum bend radius after 100 flexes.

Frequently asked questions

How thick must the sleeve be to hide the dots?

It depends on emitter pitch and the diffusion package; a 1.5–2 mm wall typically removes dot imaging on a 10 mm pitch strip, and the trial confirms it.

Will the sleeve yellow outdoors?

With a UV-stabilised package the shift is small; ask for the aged b* data and compare it with the fixture life you claim.

Can it be co-extruded with a clear inner layer?

Yes, and that combination often gives better diffusion with less total wall; the bond between layers is set in the die.

Does the sleeve affect colour rendering?

A diffuser always shifts the spectrum slightly; specify the acceptable Δu'v' on the assembled fixture, not on the material.

What about heat from a high-output strip?

Ask for the service temperature limit and the yellowing data at your junction temperature — that is the binding constraint.
